There are numerous drugs on the Georgia Code's control substance schedule, but for the purposes of this explanation we will take a look at the three most common substances that are subject to trafficking laws: cocaine, methamphetamine and other amphetamines, and marijuana.
For cocaine or amphetamines, if an individual is found with at least 28 grams, but less than 200 grams, the penalties include a fine of $200,000 and a mandatory minimum period of incarceration of at least ten years. If the trafficking charge is based on a quantity that that is between 200 and 400 grams, the penalty is a $300,000 fine and a mandatory minimum term of 15 years. 400 grams or more results in at least 25 years in prison and a fine of one million dollars.
Marijuana trafficking can also result in extremely severe penalties.
